DID YOU VOTE WITH A PROVISIONAL BALLOT (PAPER BALLOT) DURING EARLY VOTE OR ON ELECTION DAY FOR THE SEPTEMBER 23, 2025 ELECTION?

Did you vote on a paper or provisional ballot in person on Election Day or during early vote, and NOT on a voting machine? If so, you may need to take additional action (called “curing”) to make sure your vote counts.

QUESTIONS

Public Service Commissioner (PSC) in Georgia

What is the Public Service Commission (PSC)?

keyboard_arrow_down

The Public Service Commission (PSC) is the state government agency tasked with the responsibility to ensure fair prices for your monthly electric and natural gas bills and phone bills across Georgia. There are five commissioners who are elected by the voters to represent their interests. The PSC also has the responsibility to oversee power lines, phone lines, and natural gas lines that make up the infrastructure of Georgia’s utilities. These commissioners are intended to serve as advocates for the people when it comes to holding down costs on utility bills, which have risen on average by $43 per month since 2023.

Why does the Public Service Commissioner's Election matter to me?

keyboard_arrow_down

The PSC's work is essential in shaping the utility landscape in Georgia — influencing everything from energy costs to the adoption of renewable resources. By voting in the PSC election, Georgians can help ensure they’re electing representatives that allow their voices to be heard and their priorities to be put first, and that utility services remain fair, affordable and reliable.

Why Should You Care?

keyboard_arrow_down

Georgians deserve a Public Service Commission that reflects the community it serves, advocates for affordable prices, and promotes broader economic opportunities for all, not just a few in favored areas. PSC decisions impact Georgians every single day in the following ways:

  • Direct Impact on Bills: The PSC's decisions directly affect your utility bills, making it a central part of monthly household costs.
  • Energy Source Choices: Their PSC’s policies influence the types of energy available, affecting both cost and impact on our natural lands and waterways.
  • Infrastructure Development: Decisions on infrastructure projects can improve service reliability and expand access to modern utilities. These projects also represent opportunities for jobs and economic benefits for local Georgia communities.
  • Elected Representation: Commissioners are elected, meaning their decisions reflect public priorities. Your vote can shape the policies that affect your daily life.

Mass Challenges & How to Protect Your Vote

What are Mass Challenges?

keyboard_arrow_down

A challenge is when one voter formally questions another voter’s eligibility to vote in a given county or given election. A Mass Challenge is the term used to describe when one voter in a Georgia county challenges dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of other voters in their county at once. Challenges are submitted to county election officials, in each of Georgia’s 159 counties. While Mass Challenges have a long history in Georgia, Georgia lawmakers made it clear that they supported the practice of Mass Challenges by passing laws in 2021 (SB 202) and again in 2024 to make the practice easier for Challengers. Georgia has become the site of more Mass Challenges than any other state.

Click here to see a full breakdown on how the voter challenge process works.

How do I know if I have been challenged?

keyboard_arrow_down

First off- if you receive a letter or hear you may have been challenged – that DOES NOT mean you have been removed from the voter rolls and can no longer vote. It just means you need to provide additional documentation to prove you’re able to vote.

The process for notifying voters who have been challenged is not standard across the state. However, you should receive a letter in the mail from your county elections office.

The letter will give the reason you are being challenged, who in your county is challenging you, and the date/time/location of the hearing for the challenge. It may also tell you what type of information or documentation you need to bring to your challenge hearing.

As a challenged voter, you have the right “to be heard” — that is, the right to a hearing at your county Board of Elections. If you cannot make the hearing, you should be able to submit your information to the elections office instead of attending a hearing in person. You should call your local elections office to see what options you have.

Phone numbers to county elections offices can be found here: Click here to find the contact information for your county elections office.

You can always call the Election Protection Hotline for questions or support, or if you cannot get additional information from your county officials, please contact the Election Protection Hotline at 866-OUR-VOTE (866-687-8683).

Why am I being challenged?

keyboard_arrow_down

The people who bring mass challenges often rely on unreliable sources of information to bring a large number of challenges at once.If you receive a letter or hear you may have been challenged, this DOES NOT mean you have been removed from the voter rolls and can no longer vote. It just means you need to provide additional documentation to prove you’re able to vote.

What do I do if I think I might be challenged?

keyboard_arrow_down

Contact your county elections office as soon as you can.
