What if I have to vote provisionally with a paper ballot?
A provisional ballot is a paper ballot that is hand-marked and set aside in a separate envelope rather than fed through the voting machine. It is issued when a voter’s eligibility is in question, such as:
- You do not have proper identification.
- Your name is not listed on the voter registration rolls.
- There are other questions about your eligibility to vote.
If your eligibility is verified, your provisional ballot will be accepted, and your vote will be counted. If you need to vote by provisional ballot, the poll worker should provide instructions and paperwork for you to complete. You can check to see if your provisional ballot was accepted on My Voter Page.
PLEASE ACT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. If you need to provide a valid ID to your county or do something else to “cure” — or fix — your ballot, you will only have until 5pm on the Friday after Election Day to do so for your vote to count.
