What is a special election?
A special election is held outside Georgia’s normal election calendar to fill a vacancy or decide a specific issue.
Common examples:
- An unexpected vacancy (resignation, death, or removal). The Governor issues a writ of election, and the date is set under Georgia law with a required public notice period.
- A local referendum (like a tax or school funding measure), scheduled and run by the county or city elections office.

Check and update your voter registration online as soon as possible. The deadline to register for this special election is Monday, April 13, 2026.
VOTE EARLY IN PERSON
You can vote early in person Monday, April 20 - Friday, May 8.

VOTE ON ELECTION DAY
On Tuesday, May 12, 2026, you must vote at your assigned voting location. Check My Voter Page to find yours.
Polls are open 7:00am – 7:00pm. If you’re in line by 7pm, stay in line — you’re still entitled to vote. Don’t forget to bring an acceptable form of ID.
VOTE BY MAIL
Mail ballot applications are only accepted Monday, February 23 - Friday, May 1 for this election. Request your ballot here. You’ll need a printer to sign your application by hand.
